Get Relief - Listen to Soothing Music
I personally love to listen to soothing music. According to an article in the September 2010 issue of Good Housekeeping, listening to relaxing music and breathing deeply may be as beneficial as going for a massage. Seattle researchers recently reported that people who did their own tranquility treatment enjoyed the same symptom easing as those who would have gone to a professional. Both groups, with 10 weekly hour-long sessions brought a reduction in anxiety that continued for three months after the treatment period.
To find at-home relaxation: find a comfy chair or place to lie down, soft lighting, and relaxing sounds (nature, or restful instrumentals). Karen Sherman, Ph.D., of the Group Health Research Institute says, "You need a place where you won't be distracted and can really disconnect from the world." Listening to relaxing music can save you $60 for the cost of a professional massage.
